Welcome to DUBLINCHESS.COM

This website offers a window or perhaps also a mirror view of Irish chess from a mainly Dublin perspective, with some information about tournaments/events, clubs and useful contacts links combined with some news and opinion features.

Divided up into specific areas of interest, our main area of pride is a whole section by former Irish chess champion and Fide Master Colm Daly who, with his own section, "Colms Corner" has promised to provide regular chess features and analysis in the form of his astute observations and musings on a plethora of diverse chess topics.

In our games section you will find featured games that are worthy of attention, some puzzles, curiosities and brilliant combinations. In addition we will be presenting a novel feature: "Best Irish Games Ever Played" . A section in which you will be able to offer your view and impressions, and of course nominate a game that is one of your favorite games played by an Irish player.

Feedback and ideas are all welcome, so if you would like to send a game you think is of some interest or offer a perspective on some chess topic? Please feel free to contact us .

Irish Team Finish Second In Thailand International

The recent outing by a contingent of Irish players to the Bangkok Chess Club Open saw them narrowly fail to win the best team prize, which was won by Austrailia with the narrowest of margins. The whole adventure is reported on by Colm Daly at Thailand 2007 with plenty of pictures and video footage to be seen, though it is worth noting that it would best to view these pages only if you have a fast internet connection. Meanwhile there is also detailed game annotations of his own games and much comment in his latest blog at Colms Corner

Daly Wins Malahide Open - Again!

For the seventh time in the last eight years the recent Malahide Open event was won by Irish international Colm Daly, who with five points out of six rounds, [two draws] finished half point ahead of Stephen Scannell, Bernard Palmer, Gareth Annesley, Nicholas Pilkiewicz who shared second place on 4.5 points.

Last year the event was won jointly by five players and after two careless draws by Daly on the second day of play it looked like first prize might again be shared. However the last round featured a very exciting/interesting and complex draw between Palmer and Annsely who both had pieces hanging and exposed kings early in the middlegame. This and smooth wins for Daly on the last day of play against E Keogh and S Scannell resulted in the sixth outright first for Daly at this event.
